While I did enjoy this novel, there were a few aspects that irritated me. First, I was so sick of hearing Tom and Slater calling Lark "baby" or "honey". It's offensive now to call a woman such names if you're not in a romantic relationship, at least I think so, and it would have been offensive then. Second, I quickly grew tired of the author describing Slater as "weathered". Surely she could have thrown in a synonym or two once in a while. Third, it irritated me that Slater constantly flirted with Lark, kissing her and making advances towards her, without any promise of commitment. No wonder Lark was frustrated! Last, I thought the conflict was rather cobtrived. Slater was convinced he could never marry because he was so old (32!) and because he had such a harrowing past as a cowboy. SPOILER! Slater's big secret is that he used to be a U.S. Marshall. I'm not sure why that's such a big deal, why that would prevent Slater from marrying, but apparently to Slater it was a big deal. I don't know, I just thought the conflict was dramatized too much.

Weathered Too Young Marcia Lynn McClure 9780982192115 Books Reviews

This is my favorite book by Marcia Lynn McClure. Granted, I haven't read all her books, but I've read several. Even though this is my favorite, I haven't read any of her books that I didn't like.

Who could help but love the Evans brothers? Lark was so sweet. She and Slater were great together. I loved the dynamics of the two brothers. They had a great relationship.

If your want a wonderful, clean (but not boring) romance with a little intrigue and fabulous characters, read this book!
I have to say that this is one of if not the best ranch/cowboy books I've ever read.

I read Dusty Britches and I liked it fine however their were too many conflicts between Dusty and Ryder. Everytime Dusty lashed out at Ryder I hung my head in dismay.

Anyhow, this book was different... While Slater had a temper at the beginning, he never mistreated Lark and she of course never mistreated him.

Lark knocks on the door of two bachelor ranchers that just recently lost their housekeeper. Tom is a sweetheart and Slater is his tempermental brother. Lark falls for Slater, the brother even though he wanted her gone the day he first set eyes on her. The banter between the two is endearing. Lark becomes jealous when Katherine, a distant cousin of the ranchers and her three children come to live with them because she recently lost her husband.

While Slater is good to Katherine in her mourning Lark thinks he really loves Katherine and not Lark.

As others have mentioned, the kissing scenes are ....wow. Loved the book. While I didn't love that the book ended, I did love how it ended. )
After reading A Bargained-For Bride, I thought I'd give this author a chance to redeem herself. After all, some authors just have one or two crappy books while their other books are much better! And I had a copy of this book on my kindle anyway so, why not?

Once again, I thought this book was supposed to be Christian fiction. I was disappointed, however... again. This one was worse than A Bargained-For Bride! In my opinion, it read more like a regular trashy (as I call them) romance (yes, though it embarrasses me to admit it, I have read a few of those in the past), minus the sexiest parts, plus God & prayer thrown into the mix to make it eligible to be tagged "Christian". There is also some so-called mild cussing throughout.

I tried to finish this book -- I really did! -- if for no other reason than to say that I read it all the way through and was basing my opinion on the book in its entirety. I did make it over half-way, but I just couldn't force myself to waste any more time on it when there are so many much better books I could be reading and enjoying.
I enjoyed this book which was well written and well edited. The author does a nice job creating a feeling of being on a ranch in the west in this 1800's. The characters were interesting and likeable and they had complicated secrets in their pasts that were slowly revealed over the course of the story. A lot of time was devoted to character development and relationship growth between them. I really liked the way the author handled this, no instalust to be found. The plot was fairly character based, following their relationships, until the end when some intrigue and danger are added in to bring the story to an exciting finish. There is no sex in this story, only kissing, and no profanity, but there is some violence. I would like to read the sequel since I liked the brothers so much.

Heat factor mild.
I've read a number of this author's books and discovered they're hit or miss. This one was kind of middle of the road. For the most part, I enjoyed the story, especially Lark's ability to provide for herself. I felt the writing didn't have a lot of depth, though, and Slater's messing with Lark's head, kissing, teasing and then completely ignoring her was pretty childish.

The male characters were strong, handsome, hard working, but apparently couldn't form a coherent sentence. Historically, men didn't call women honey or baby and would certainly not walk around with their underwear open in front of a lady. And we read about it way too much. That and her thoughts of him kissing her. It was like a school girl crush. I'm not sure why Slater kept thinking he was too old to marry or that she wouldn't want him because of his past. I really liked Tom, too, but again, he needs to take a few lessons in speaking.

After all the rambling, I still don't know if I would recommend it or not. It was light entertainment, pretty clean, no cursing.
