I love the Crossfire books so much, I was interested to see what their author did in this genre. I paid for one book and a couple of short stories, but, i am not paying for the others. These books were written before the author wrote the Gideon-Eva books, years before. She is a better writer (with better editors) now, in 2012-13. In "Eve of Darkness", the heroine, Eve, struggles with her new, magical life as a "mark". I wish she would strap on a pair and own her new powerful abilities. Instead, she constantly gets rescued by the Biblical brothers and yearns for a return to her former mortal state. I'm not a big fan of the clever-clever religious references that need constant explication. These books are quite a few steps down from her new books and re-releasing them for the author's fan base at full pricing seems a little . . .money-grubbing. She is not the only popular author to do reprints but other authors re-release their old books with forewords that subtly apologize and soften the reader's disappointment.Tags : Eve of Darkness (Marked, Book 1) [S. Eve of Darkness Marked Book 1 S J Day 9780765360410 Books Reviews
Evangeline Hollis, still trying to fill the shoes of a Mark (one of God's army), goes to demon-hunting bootcamp at an abandoned military base to sharpen her skills at sending the damned back to Hell. The tension heightens as Alec Cain, her main love interest, becomes mysteriously distant just when she needs his help.
Someone or something appears to be stalking the members of her class. Eve wonders if she'll figure out who - or what - is after them in time to save anybody. Reed Abel, Cain's mythical brother, is there to stir the pot and antagonize his brother by making moves on Eve in a seeming eternal triangle.
With enough erotic romance and action to satisfy every reader looking for a strong yet flawed heroine, this story carries through with the inventive premise of angels and demons working and living among the mortals of earth. A fun and emotionally-charged ride!
My spouse seems quite entertained with this author or at least this series. Wish I knew how to get her to do a autograph on a book. That would make her decade.
I can across this book by accident, having read Ms. Day’s Crossfire series I was a bit skeptical. I downloaded the sample and was hooked. Evangeline, Alec and Reed are just amazing. I really recommend it.
I love reading the books but this one disappoints because there's not much sex, just a lot of sexual tension. Too many characters with weird names or nicknames. Hoping "Eve of Chaos' picks up a little.
Not Sylvia Day's best work but an interesting story line. Caught my attention early on in the story and found to be an easy read. This is an early work of Ms. Day's and she had yet to find her voice. One problem with the story is the relationship between Cain and Able verses Eve. I related to Cain's love for Eve, but considering how Able "recruited" Eve into their organization I was confounded as to why Eve would give him a second look. I don't care if he resembled his brother, his method of recruitment negated any rational thought of attraction that Eve would have had. Would have liked it better if she had a normal response to being attacked, rather than continue thoughts of attraction toward her attacker.
Mostly a romance novel with a paranormal setting. It was a frustrating read, the story lacked continuity and jumped from paragraph to paragraph. I didn't understand half of what was going on till the middle end of the book. There was supposed to be a love triangle, but it was not written well at all and if I was supposed to be rooting for "Cain" I missed that train he was annoying and not hero material.
